NIGHT OF MUSEUMS (MAY)
These nights museums turn into a stage for theatrical performances, readings, singing, tastings and other types of entertainment. The entrance to the Museum is free from 12:00 to 22:00. The National Museum of Archaeology and History organizes a series of events to celebrate the event.
Other museums organize special exhibitions and events such as Coffee &Art Vernissage. “Night of museums" is held under the auspices of the Council of Europe and organized along with the International Day of Museums celebrated by the International Council of Museums
THEATRE FESTIVAL FESTEI (MAY)
The international festival of stage art of the theatre "Eugen Ionesco" is a well-known and visited event in Moldova. For 10 days in May, on several theatre stages in Chisinau theatre companies from many countries present dramatic, musical and dance performances.
The most active participating countries are South Korea, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, Russia, Romania, Spain, Israel, Moldova and others.
CHRONOGRAPH FESTIVAL (MAY)
Chronograph is the only documentary film festival held in Chisinau. It takes place in the Odeon cinema. The festival has a good reputation at the international level; in 2012, the 10th festival was held, where more than 200 works were included in the competition.
The famous filmmakers, directors and critics from France, Germany, Georgia, Moldova and Romania are the members of the jury of the contest. The public access to the event is by purchased tickets.
THEATRE OF WINE & GASTRONOMY (FEBRUARY)
The culinary event is traditionally held in mid-February during the annual wine exhibition ExpoVin Moldova. As a part of this event, the best chefs of Moldova, as well as some foreign chefs, prepare delicious dishes in front of the public.
The selected wines from the local wineries presented in the exhibition center are served to the food. Some traditional dishes are prepared by the local celebrities. The date of the event is February, it is held at Moldexpo Exhibition Center.
BOSTANIADA FESTIVAL (OCTOBER)
The festival was already appreciated at its first observance on October 28, 2012 in the village of Lozova, Straseni. The event promotes the culture of pumpkin consumption and the quality of traditional dishes prepared from fresh products. At the festival pumpkin is presented in all kinds of functions and forms: fresh pumpkin for sale, pumpkin cooked in cold and hot dishes, pumpkin as a lantern, as a decoration, as a vessel for wine, as a musical instrument, etc. The festival program includes gastronomy, music, crafts market and fresh fruit and vegetable market. The event takes place at the central stadium of Lozova annually until the beginning of October.
MOLDOVAN WINE FESTIVAL (OCTOBER)
The Moldovan wine festival, officially called National Wine Day, takes place in Chisinau on the first weekend of October, at the end of the grape harvesting. The festival celebrates the rich winemaking traditions that originated in the XV century.
During the festival Moldovan wineries proudly present their wines on individual stands, which are often decorated in the national style, and offer the visitors wine tastings. Guests are offered a wide range of wines, from dry wines (red, white and rose), produced according to the latest trends, to sparkling wines, sweet, semi-sweet and fortified wines, rare "collection wines", produced 10-20 years ago and stored in the famous Moldovan wine cellars. White wine attracts the most attention; dozens of local restaurants and cafes offer traditional foods: grilled meats, plachintas, other national dishes, fruits and desserts. The festival is also marked by such local coloring as national music and dance, participants in national costumes. Many sellers offer the handicrafts of Moldovan artisans. The admission is free.
NATIONAL WINE DAY: FIVE REASONS NOT TO MISS THE GRAND CELEBRATION DEDICATED TO WINE AND WINEMAKING IN MOLDOVA
The celebration of the 15th National Wine Day will traditionally take place on the first weekend of the second month of autumn, October 1-2. The most active winemakers of Moldova will gather on the Square of the Great National Assembly in Chisinau to pay tribute to the national drink with a thousand-year history – Wine. These days all Moldovans and the guests of the country, foreign tourists, will gather together to honor Moldovan wine-making traditions with music, dance, performances, delicious dishes and good mood. National Wine Day is the main tourist holiday of the country, which has become a real attraction of South-Eastern Europe. The event will be held under the slogan "The Wine of Moldova. A Living legend" and will be organized to promote Moldovan wines along with local gastronomic and cultural traditions
Seven reasons to take part in the National Wine Day
1. The opportunity to taste more than 300 varieties of wine. About 40 large wineries, small producers and divines producers will put up for tasting and selling a unique variety of wines: new harvest wines, collection wines, wines produced in limited quantities, as well as new wines, presented for the first time at the festival. The visitors will be able to taste wines from special glasses and make a traditional Moldovan toast "Noroc!" along with hundreds of thousands of the holiday guests.
2. The opportunity to go on a trip along the "Wine Route". The event will involve a tourist information center for the visitors who want to discover Moldova, going on wine tours from the heart of the capital and visit the winemaking enterprises, underground galleries, cellars, vineyards, tasting rooms, wineries and boarding houses, where the special programs will be prepared for them, thereby making an unforgettable journey into the world of Moldovan wine and winemaking.
3. The opportunity to take a course in the "School of Wine". This is one of the main attractions of the holiday, thanks to which everyone will be able to understand the art of wine tasting due to taking lessons from experts-sommeliers. The thematic tastings will feature wines with a protected geographical indication, special wines, dessert wines and divines.

4. The opportunity to listen to folk and modern music in a live performance. Also in the evening there will be a grand concert with the participation of the stars of modern Moldovan pop.
5. The opportunity to taste the dishes of the traditional Moldovan cuisine and visit the Gastronomic theatre. INDEPENDENCE DAY (AUGUST 27)
On Independence Day, the events are held throughout Moldova, the largest and most important of which are in Chisinau, where the holiday is celebrated with an open-air festival. The national military band gives a concert, and many cultural events (such as folk music and dance) are also held. Dozens of local restaurants and cafes offer traditional foods: grilled meats, plachintas, other national dishes, fruits and desserts. MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY (AUGUST 31)
In Chisinau, Mother Language Day opens with laying flowers to the foot of the monument to Stefan Cel Mare and the classics of the Romanian literature in honor of the day of the Romanian language proclamation as the official language of the country and the restoration of the use of the Latin alphabet on August 31, 1989. The rest of the day turns into a big open-air festival, where dozens of local restaurants and cafes offer traditional dishes: grilled meat, plachintas, other national dishes, fruits and desserts. The festival is also marked by such local coloring as national music and dance, participants in national costumes. Many sellers offer the handicrafts of Moldovan artisans. In the evening there is a concert. The admission is free.
CHISINAU CITY DAY (OCTOBER)
The Day of the city Chisinau or the temple festival of Chisinau is a Russian orthodox religious holiday honoring the intercession of the Holy Virgin. It is celebrated every year on October 14. During the celebration the main street of the city, Stefan cel Mare boulevard, is closed for the traffic and it turns into an open-air festival scene instead.
Numerous improvised terraces along the boulevard offer plenty of food and wine. From all the sides one can hear national music, see dances (especially hora, traditional Moldovan folk dance), and other folk traditions shows. Many participants are dressed in national costumes. Sellers offer the handicrafts of local artisans. In the evening there is usually an open-air concert in the Great National Assembly Square which often ends with spectacular fireworks.
Every town and village in Moldova has a temple festival in honor of its patron Saint. Traditionally, at temple festivals, families, friends and guests are invited to a festive dinner, where guests also enjoy traditional Moldovan folk dance. MUSIC FESTIVAL MARTISOR (MARCH)
Every year the first days of spring are marked by the opening of the Martisor Music Festival. In 2017, the festival was held for the 51st time. During the first ten days of March the best concert halls of Chisinau (i.e. the Philharmonic, the Organ Hall, and the Opera House) and other stages host more than 40 concerts.
The performances are very different - from classical music to folklore, traditional and modern dance. The festival gathers in Moldova the artists from many countries, such as Austria, Germany, Poland, Romania, Belarus, China, Russia and others. The admission is by the tickets which can be purchased at the theatre where the performance will take place.
VATRA announces the opening of the season of the events in retro style in the period of May 1-3 in the Ethno-Cultural Complex of VATRA. In the open air, with a delightful panorama and in a fresh spring atmosphere, we hold a grand event – the Retro May Festival. There will be an exhibition of more than 100 retro cars and motorcycles of Moldovan and foreign collectors, retro costumes and outfits, as well as the antique items of special value. The atmosphere will be embellished with traditional dishes prepared according to original recipes. During the whole festival national and international music groups, which have inspired many generations will perform; and famous folk artists will present a special retro program. MUSIC FESTIVAL GUSTAR (AUGUST)
Gustar is dedicated to music, art and traditional food, especially fruit, and it usually takes place on the last weekend of August. It runs for 2 days in the open air in the natural amphitheatre near Orheiul Vechi (Old Orhei).
Here you can enjoy natural Moldovan fruits and vegetables, meat cooked on the grill and other local delicacies, while you get acquainted with traditional music and dance. Musicians from Moldova and other countries perform during the festival. The tickets are available for purchase on site.
FACES OF FRIENDS (AUGUST)
The international music festival "Faces of Friends" is the main musical event of Moldova and the region. The festival is held annually in Cahul, a small town in the South of Moldova.
During the two days of the festival the best ensembles from Moldova, as well as the artists from Romania, Russia and Ukraine give pop, rock and jazz performances. Traditionally, the night between two days is a "jazz night" with special, often improvised performances performed by different artists. The admission is free.
ETHNO JAZZ FESTIVAL (SEPTEMBER)
The ethno-jazz festival is an international musical event that takes place in Moldova in September and it is organized by the ethno-jazz group Trigon. It has become a major jazz festival of Moldova. Jazz performers from different countries perform at the festival. The festival promotes contemporary culture and cultural exchange through music. The admission is by tickets which you can buy on site.
FESTIVAL OF OPERA AND BALLET NAMED AFTER MARIA BIESU (SEPTEMBER)
In the framework of the annual festival "Maria Biesu Invites" on two stages of Chisinau the famous conductors of orchestras, opera singers and ballet dancers perform. The artists come from Austria, France, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine and other countries. The festival was organized in honor of Maria Biesu (August 3, 1935 – May 16, 2012), who was a Moldovan Opera singer and the main soloist of the Chisinau Opera and Ballet Theatre, and now commemorates her life. Her artistic skills brought her international recognition and invitations to sing in other countries.
POTTERY FAIR IN IURCENI
In 2017 the National Pottery Fair in the village Iurceni, Nisporeni was held for the 29-th time. This exhibition-competition is designed to promote traditional crafts and determine the best potter of Moldova. Last year many potters from more than 10 regions of Moldova, as well as ceramists from some regions of Romania participated.
LA VATRA HORELOR
La Vatra Horelor is a national festival and competition of musical performers and groups. The participants are divided into vocalists, soloists on musical instruments, orchestras and choreographic groups. The festival lasts one or two days, depending on the number of the registered participants.
The main organizer is the National Center for the Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of culture.
WHITE LILY (JULY)
The festival is held on odd years in Cahul, a small town in the South of Moldova. During the festival, the city is transformed by folk singers, dancers and artisans from all over the world. Folklore is the eternal spring that nourishes the culture of all peoples.
Guided by this idea, the organizers increase the number of participants every year, which makes it possible to present at the festival "White Lily" the cultures of different peoples. The admission is free.
DUMINICA MARE (GREAT SUNDAY) (JUNE)
Dulce Floare de Salcam (a sweet flower of acacia) is a traditional song contest that gathers the best soloists and collectives of Moldova and neighboring countries. During the competition artists of all ages perform beautiful traditional folk music, including vocal and instrumental pieces. The best artists are awarded the prizes, but no matter whether you win or lose – all have a great time. The festival begins with a parade of traditional clothes and ends with a big Moldovan hora (folk dance). The admission is free.
DULCE FLOARE DE SALCAM (A SWEET FLOWER OF ACACIA) (MAY)
Dulce Floare de Salcam (a sweet flower of acacia) is a traditional song contest that gathers the best soloists and collectives of Moldova and neighboring countries. During the competition artists of all ages perform beautiful traditional folk pieces including vocal and instrumental ones. The best artists are awarded the prizes, but no matter whether you win or lose – all have a great time. The festival begins with a parade of traditional clothes and ends with a big Moldovan hora (folk dance). The admission is free.
CLASSICAL PARACHUTING CUP OF MOLDOVA
In October, the parachuting club of Moldova will hold another open Cup of Moldova in parachuting at the sports airport Vadul-lui-Voda. More than 30 contestants from several countries are expected, during the two days of the competition the parachutists have to make seven jumps and demonstrate the techniques of accurate landing.
The event is open to the visitors. In addition to the long parachute jumps, the audience will be able to enjoy other attractions and demonstrations, such as the motorcycle exhibition. For a fee, the participants will be able to make jumps in tandem with the experienced skydivers.
BEMOL MOTOCROSS CUP
In October the International Motocross Cup is held for all fans of adrenaline and motocross! The event takes place near the town of Hincesti on the road Hincesti-Leova (1 km). The championship hosts more than 70 athletes from such countries as Moldova, Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Latvia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Romania and others.
The racers compete in several categories: 50-65 CC (children), 85 CC, MX2 (125 CC-250 CC), MX1 (250 CC-open), amateurs and veterans.
КУБОК BEMOL ПО МОТОКРОССУ
В октябре проводиться Международный кубок по мотокроссу для всех любителей адреналина и мотокросса! Мероприятие проходит возле г. Хынчешть на трассе Хынчешть-Леова (1 км). В чемпионате принимают участие более 70 спортсменов из таких стран как Молдова, Германия, Италия, Венгрия, Нидерланды, Латвия, Беларусь, Россия, Украина, Румыния и других.
Гонщики соревнуются в нескольких категориях: 50-65 куб. см (дети), 85 куб. см, MX2 (125 куб. см-250 куб. см), MX1 (250 куб. см-open), любители и ветераны.
Every year on September 22 or around this date a velo-hora is held in Chisinau to mark the World Day without a Car (September 22). The main event of the festival is an open 20-kilometer bike ride along the streets of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Thousands of cyclists of all ages gather in the Great National Assembly Square before driving through the city accompanied by the local police.
In addition to the bike ride, there are fun activities for adults and children and other family entertainments, including an open-air concert in the square. The name of the festival comes from "hora", a traditional Moldovan dance in a circle.
